hi everytime I start up,within a few miles the temp gauge goes about three quarters of the way round and the rad fans come on.ive checked the coolant level and it's fine.the car never overheats,but should this happen?,is the thermostat faulty?advice please

Age of your car? Do you have the aircon switched on? On post-facelift models, the fans run when the aircon is switched on even if the water temp is cold. The fans are variable speed, so if you think they are only runing when you can hear them from the driver's seat with the window down, you may be mistaken! - they may be running all the time but you just cannot hear them on their low settings.

Not sure of the arrangements on earlier models.

hi,its a 1996 2.8 auto.i'll try starting it up with the bonnet open to see if the fans start straight away.thanks for the advice
